2007-2008. The Ringtone catalogue

70% of the music catalogue (the songs) has been divided and edited as a ringtone/realtone/mastertone, videotone, doorbell and car alarm. Released in the U.S. through Verizon, T-Mobile, Orange and Vodafone in Europe and also released in Japan and South Korea.

As the films produced between 1997-2006 suffered from a poor distribution and some were still awaiting a general release, just over 800 pics -numbered 1-800 have been extracted (exported) from the films and used as a backdrop for the ringtones. The films were in fact distributed, albeit in images but images following the chapters in the films with music, noise and often bits of dialogues in the actual ringtones. We only used the content of 4 films, as the other films have been released later.

As for an understanding of the series of images used, we provided a summary of the corresponding scene from the films and in an interactive presentation on this website. Available for those interested, but only a few millions clicked on the interactive slideshow that we created.

The distribution of the ringtones were in parts -large part- distributed by a tech division of Sony. A combined 6 M ringtones have been sold and for the first time in history, a label that I was associated with was truly happy with my work. It paid for 4 people to live for 4 years. Basically. Most of my albums have been subsequently released as well as some of my films. Even with the happiness indulged with the sale of the ringtones, it didn't prevent the distributor from firing me by email, one bright morning in 2011. For them, I just couldn't produce fast enough. They have missed out on the 18 new feature films and documentaries and 10 albums produced during the 2010 years.

Still available today but on Apple music only under Virtual Alien with no direct links: we have to log in to Apple.

King of the World

Back in 1990, Old Nick was due to release my first album with Warner Bros. The song that was supposed to trigger a new career was: King of the World written by Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers. The lyrics are all about empowerment and winning and this has been reflected in the video. The video incorporated images of war, boxing and football matches interposed with footage from a live concert with the eighties video tracking effect. All of a sudden or carefully planned according to some conspiracies, the first Gulf War started and both MTV and the BBC banned it and other radios couldn't play the song. Warner Bros scrapped my contract and everything collapsed.

A compilation album was released King of the World 1990, released in 1990 but actually distributed in 1991 for 'logistical reasons' with a completely blue cover and sleeve and with one with my face in blue over a white background, then the actual King of the World album finally released in 1992 for the first time on CD only. "If the song and the video had nothing to do with the war, I became thoroughly anti-war and as the 21st century gathered pace, it is more than obvious that games are played by some people between themselves with total disregard for the victims caught in the middle. Again: in the 21st century, there are other ways to settle a dispute."

"Back in 2005, I proudly was on the front of an anti- Iraq war march / anti-Blair too. Over one million people took to the streets. And again in the Ukraine, I stated again the same 21st century logic and indeed the war is far too complex and messy to support. Wars must be avoided at all costs and indeed they need to be avoided. Of course, wars are a big business, there's the rub. I run into a lot of trouble for my views but I'm unrepentant: " absolutely no regrets " !" Old Nick

Triangle(s) as a logo

"An equilateral triangle and all its variations is to me the symbol of infinity: a high order that denote that everything is possible, that anything can still be created and learnt, anything can be achieved without limits and everything must be achieved.

One of my two logos was a triangle. I ended up using triangles in all my designs, and this will be the subject of a publication, explanation and presentation." Old Nick

War of Love

"Too young to realize as I wasn't entirely in charge and could not receive any -only some- of the royalties as I was still a minor. When I became 21 and receive ONLY some of the money -the rest was probably already cashed in by my producers-. Of course, I have managed to save soemthing and live modestly until today whilst I embarked on new ventures. On one hand, I wish I could have been more counscious of the Eighties and celebrate and receive some gold / platinum albums but on the other hand, everyone who got the money celebrated so much that they derailed their careers and became too fond of Charlie.

I was merely a passenger during the Eighties, completely oblivious of what was going on and I just worked and worked, recorded songs after songs and in as many languages as possible even if I didn't understand the language I was singing in. I was a factory worker and I hope a talended one but this has stuck (and resonated) with me until today."

"The cover was designed by Laura Pitt, a polaroid from a nude session. I have no idea how this came about but it did, somehow. Thankfully, the music clip could not be shown then and has not reappeared since. I never kept the video."

"My initial version was on a guitar and a heavily distorted one. Then it has been re-recorded, re-arranged and produced by members of my team."Old Nick

T is short for Tinnitus and nothing else and the character G is short for Gordon and nothing else. (In both cases it needed to be said).
Depending on the version the film, it is just under 3 hours and we released 6 trailers. The film revolves around the number 6 being the conundrum.

Closer to the Sun / Burning from the Inside

As a writer and creator, I always feel about the characters that I have either created or the people I have interviewed. In this project alone, I interviewed 101 members of a Nigerian tribe in the old region of Nigeria and it has really not been easy. The project started in 1999 and ended in 2004. When my agency at the time heard that I was embarking on such a project, they panicked as oil companies were investing in films. I'm not sure that I was naive, it was just a project that I felt I really had to do.

It's about Nigeria but also about England; its past and present. I was informed 1 minute before interviewing one of the members, that the day before he and his commando took over an oil rig, took all the workers hostage and killed most of the workers in the process. So, it doesn't always make the interview so comfortable but it's hugely important to try and understand the interviewee and yes there is always some sympathy for the characters or interviewees. Trying to undertstand is the key, no matter how gruesome.

Beyond the Sphere of Reasonable Doubt

UPC: 815651021485. Film.

The title was initially used for my 2001-2009 diaries in 3 volumes. An astronomical task to summarise an entire decade, especially since the online version was full of abbreviations, symbols and a general presentation that needed to be edited for  a printed version. It has taken 3 editions of each book to finally get it right (over 2000 A4 pages in all).
Initially a play: The After Life, then a TV pilot. It is is about many subjects: about the ego of a game show host amd television in general, about spiritism, about what is real and not and about like the diaries before,   this is when we can feel that we have finally understood everything and there is no margin of errors and the truth is unravelling  before our very eyes and our outlook over the world has changed and has been narrowed down to a singleton.  Nothing is what it seems and nothing matters anymore.

P.S. There was a different cover for original covers for the hardback and paperback books. As each film in England is filed through teh tax system and is a nightmare, The front cover is like the cover of a set of accounts but then smudged with my blood. I would truly described these tax filings as bloody. The cover has been changed to the poster of the film, far more presentabale and acceptable. The original book seems to be available for a fortune with its cover and mistakes on various websites. People will really buy anything. There is nothing exciting about a draft. I suppose, we can call it Art.

Adventures Beyond the Hemisphere

UPC: 815651021492. Film

Adventures Beyond the Hemisphere has been created at the height of the Brexit talks -going nowhere- , so the process and the film could be construed as entirely / completely debilitating. "A train breaks down a few times during a long journey and the passengers must endure the stories of the train driver guiding them throughout their ordeal". From then on "When everything has been lived before on planet Earth it is time to gravitate into the Solar system and beyond".
P.S. I don't do synopses. Not that I want to be different or pretentious but I believe that outlines, taglines, short and long summaries and trivia are the best way to describe a project. Synopses are ambiguous unless they are keywords.

The Human Lib (2017) and In and Out of Planet Earth (2007) project(s).

The Human lib feature film documentary uses 60% of footage from the feature film In and Out of Planet Earth. In In and Out of Planet Earth, the tagline is: "a psychedelic trip underwater" but in Human Lib, it deals and presents all the illegal -and some legal drugs- widely used in Britain, the sexual issues and all its complications. It is a reflection of British society in the 21st century. It seems that the only ones saved are the ones with deep religious beliefs, although in the end, the trap is still there.
The documentary was presented to the Department of Health for use as an anti-drug promotion, but it failed, as the content was deemed too "explicit". Being a matter of life and death, it beggars belief that it would be construed as "explicit". Where do illegal drugs come from? Legal in some countries, it is also a government tool. There is no opposition to any rules on drugs.

My logo

One of my two logos, mainly used in connection with Old Nick is an equilateral triangle and for Virtual Alien a black bird over a white background, intially drawn when I was 5. Many tried to find a hidden meaning for it, I couldn't. There might be one subconsciously hidden in my mind but I can't otherwise see any meaning, I just like the bird.

The cover of my very first single back in 1983 was a black triangle over a grey background. It was created in 1982. I have never been able to provide an explanation for the cover. It just happened. The songs on the single were Glorious / The Final Song and Glorioushas been defined as the "Coldest song on record". The artist name was The OldNick then The Old Nick (in two words, after I highlighted the issue to the label). It is actually Old Nick properly registered and used ever since. Until I became 21 and could control things a bit better, Old Nick was often printed in one word. To my dismay and anger.

www.virtualalien.net

2007: this website was launched.

This website has been launched. From its initial launch year until 2022, the site has been hosted on 4 different servers. We even have been hacked on one server in 2012. Very fortunate that I keep all the data in the non-virtual world. All the data from visitors combined from all servers and as of 2012, combined 480 M views, not 'unique visitors', as many of the same users returned more than once. Other media metrics such as IMDb tend to corroborate this but over there The combined views of all the stats are far higher.

We started a process to have the stats audited in New York, but Covid came and I've chosen to remain in England during that time so the audit has stalled. It is not to gloat about it, but in order to achieve this, it has been an extremely hard and difficult period. Infact, all through the decades. It really wasn't an easy process.

We never really attached too much importance to the data until we have been confronted with the lack of 'traditional media' on the web -still traditional and often hard to be respected- coverage (what used to be called: media or press coverage). The time it takes and wasted in chasing even a tiny mention, truly outweighs the benefit. I'm extremely happy to keep my face in the crowd and to be ignored in the mainstream consciousness: it's nanotechnology at its most refined!
